Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a style of bodywork developed in Japan. Its goal is to restore the healthy flow of energy throughout the body. Shiatsu is similar to acupuncture, but uses finger pressure instead of needles. Its name comes from two Japanese words -- "shi" or finger and "atsu" or pressure. For a treatment, you wear loose clothing. It is performed on a futon on the floor. The fingers and thumbs are used to apply pressure to specific points on the body's energy pathways, known as meridians. Other techniques such as rocking, stretches and joint rotations are also used. Shiatsu treatment is holistic, addressing the whole body rather than focusing on the one area where symptoms are most obvious. A shiatsu massage session is for an hour, with an initial consultation at the start so that trust and an understanding of any symptoms or complaints present can be established.
By working on muscles and more deeply on internal organs, nervous system and meridians (energy channels), a Shiatsu massage will help to release tension and re-direct blocked energy to restore harmony to your body and mind.
